I had these fabbed up for my 2000# edge sander. The bolt on top raises and lowers the caster, which is a scaffold type with the square post. One nice thing is that they could be mounted on the machine without lifting it first. Also, the outrigger design malware machine much more stable.

That's clever.

The threaded screw drives the armature upwards, as the wheel can't move.
The second spar keeps the works from racking, and the stand off gives the wheel room to spin around it's turning axis.

Where I come from, anything 2000 pounds is a permanent fixture.

Drilled and tapped directly into the casting?

No, the bolts just run straight through with nuts on the inside. Tapping 16 holes that close to the ground was too much for these knees. The sander does have a sem-permanent home, but sometimes I need a little more clearance or an outfeed for my slider. I also plan to add a side and back table to the sander at some point.
