I have the Grizzly G9983 15" open ended sander.
I've always bought sanding belts from Grizzly.
I see theirs are "open coated".

I'd like to buy from CustomSandingBelts.com, and save some money.
They sell open and closed coated for the same price.

From my research, it seems I should be using closed coated.

Anyone aware of that being an issue on my machine?

Which Grizzly belts are you using? Are you using the paper belts?

I just checked their website, and for hardwood, open coat is excellent, while closed coat is fair, and for softwood, open coat is excellent while closed coat is Not recommended. Looked at the Grizzly catalog, and the paper belts in a 5 pack are 46.95 to 52.95, that makes a 5 pack from 9.39 to 10.59 each in the x weight paper backing. I buy the paper backed belts because the tape only lasts so long no matter how good your belting material is. The old glued joint belts lasted longer, and you could run belts until they were worn out, but as all the belts are taped, and you can't replace the tape, I buy cheap belts.

As a general rule, open coated paper does not clog up as fast as closed.
