My brother in law gave me this old lathe from his late dad's basement shop. There is no motor but the home made gear box is cool. I'm at a loss as to what to do with it? Should I just stick it back somewhere, sell it, restore it or use it as is? Any Idea what it may be worth?

Since it was your dad's, I would restore it and just let is set in the shop. Family hand-me down tools are wonderful in my book!

I kind of wonder if the gear box even goes with the lathe. I have an old Dunlap that I sometimes use to make duck calls. Right now I am getting ready to set it up with variable speed motor. For what I do it is a way to make a classic duck call the old way without all of the modern "stuff" that everyone "thinks" they need.

I was wondering about the gearbox. I just assumed it went with it. Not sure why there was a need to make a right turn. I like the idea of putting it up somewhere. Think I'll make a small shelf over my walk through shop door and put it there - kind of a antique woodworking show pc. I really have not jumped into wood turning ( yet :) )
