So I am working on a laundry room remodel for the LOML and ordered some, albeit, cheaper Euro Hinges off of eBay. I don't have much experience with Euro Hinges, but had been using ones available at the Home Depot which have screws next to the cup. The ones I received appear to be Press In of sorts.

How do I install these? What size hold to I need to drill for the Press In portion?

Or I guess, should I keep them? The eBay listing showed the standard screw in hinges and what I received definitely wasn't that. I already have the mounting portion attached to the carcasses so would like to make these work.

Thanks,

Ben

When I get those I just change out the screws. Grab the press in part with pliers and use a driver to remove the existing screw and the press in part will come off.
Then use a 5/8" #6 to attach it to the door

The usual boring pattern is 8 mm diameter holes for the press-in studs, and 35 mm diameter for the cup. The 8 mm holes are 45 mm apart. The centerline of the 8 mm holes is 9.5 mm from the centerline of the cup hole. Usually the edge of the cup hole is set 5 mm from the edge of the door, but it can be changed to change the overlay of the door on the cabinet frame.

Your project looks to be melamine-covered particle board. If the doors are particle board too, these press-in studs are better for you than screws. Screws can pull out of particle board.

This style of hinge is intended to be installed with a press. To press these dowels in by hand can be frustrating but it is possible. I would rather remove the dowel and install with screws but of course these would need to be big diameter screws like euro screws - https://www.google.com/search?q=euro+screw+images&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=FZ9FUvYphOr0BJzhgZgH&ved=0CEQQsAQ&biw=1116&bih=890&dpr=1

Otherwise - I don't know the hole size for the plastic dowel but you can do some mock ups until you find the right size. Locate the centerlines on your doors. Bore the holes. Remove the screws from the dowels. Then press in the dowels with a block of wood (both sides of the door to protect the surfaces) and a c clamp. Then screw the hinges back on through the dowels. Yikes. Not very efficient.

Be worth setting these hinges aside and getting some screw ons or " Blum Insertas" - by far my favorites.

Then what the other guys wrote while I was composing my response :). I suggest a euro screw because the small diameter of regular screws allows a bit of play in the enlarged screw hole in the hinge once the dowel is removed. Especially in particle board. Over the life of the use regular screws will allow for some movement that I would prefer to eliminate.

Thanks for the replies guys!

My doors with be Shaker/Mission style with Maple rails/stiles and a 1/2" MDF panel. I will be painting/lacquering the doors when all is said and done.

I did try to remove the plastic studs and they easily came out, so going with a screw is a simple solution.

With Maple is there any reason not to remove these and go with a screw?

Ditch the dowels. They are only there for production purposes. It's a lot faster in a busy shop when the boring and hinge installation is done in one step with a single machine. No reason for you to struggle with drilling for dowels.
