This is my first attempt at one of these, really quite fun. The wood I believe is spalted maple or spalted baywood (ebay) it measures 3-3/4 tall, 11" in diameter and about 3/16" thick. The finish so far is a seal coat & Tung oil. Please enjoy.

Looks fabulous, Bil. Please don't tell me you hollowed with hand held tools. The hole looks like about an inch and the sideways reach is probably 5" or better. Lots of torque and many opportunities for a hole destroying catch. The wood is real nature's art.

Actually I did this in 2 hours using only Glaser Mini QR tools. The secret is, this is a technique I came up with by making a tenon around the hole in the middle. This way I can use my Glaser screw chuck to turn the outside shape of the top 1/2 and chuck it to turn the inside. Then I turn the tenon away once the 2 pieces are glued together.
