Knife gauge question for Jet planer owners

I've recently purchased a Jet Jwp16OS planer but didn't get the knife gauge the manual recommends using to set the blades. A new one is $20.00 which I don't mind paying if it's worth it. Any Jet owners out there who can tell me if it's worth the purchase or it there a better way? Thanks Lewis

I have the same planer. When I got mine, I also did not have a knife jig.. I used a dial indicator and home made jig to set them in relation to the cutter head... There is a good video on this if you google wood planer setup..
