Anyone have any idea what this? I got it from one of my clients (they're always bringing me material they think I might want to work with). He had no idea what it was from. It looks like it may have been part of some furniture or maybe even a piano? I hesitate to cut up something that might be usable. Not sure what the species is. It's 1" thick about 43" long and 5-1/2" wide. The holes are 1" in diameter and there is a finish on the edges.

I'd say an unusually highly figured piece of Douglas fir or hemlock .

Any idea what it's function may be? Musical instrument part?

It looks to me like the shape and holes are old,but the piece itself sliced from an old beam that had some structural use. Probably a Father's Day tie rack that the dad failed to buy dowels for....

I think it was a part of something that was taken apart. The edges that don't have a finish on them are as dark as the holes.

Found a photo of a guitar made from the same wood - curly D. fir like Mel Fulks thought.

I'm not sure. Testing will need to be conducted. Please send it to me for "testing"
