I just completed restoring a Walker Turner 14" band saw and I need a blade for re-sawing wood. I'm sure I want a 1/2" blade. What I'm not so sure about is do I need hook tooth or skip tooth blade and how thick should the blade be. The blade that was on the saw was 1/2" wide and 0.0156" thick... quite a few TPI. Thanks

Hi bill, I use a 3/8 .025 4t skip on my 14 inch saw.I buy from rockler I also open up the boxes and check the weld.A good blade should have a good weld feel flat and look lined up at the teeth. Its okay if there's a short gullet. My saw takes a 93 1/2 I use the Olsen brand.
If you don't have a rockler nearby maybe you have saw sharpening service they usually have blades they weld up any size you need.Good luck How about a pic of your saw? Andrew

Thanks for the information Andrew. I calculated my saw blade length to be between 94-96". I'll go with your recommendation on skip tooth and 3/8" @ 0.025".

You might want to check Michael Fortune's comments. He recommends two or three tpi skip tooth blades. Apparently, the issue in resawing is clearing out the chips created.

The 4tpi blades don't clear the chips effectively and cause drift to take place. The chips create heat and dull the blade.

I have gone to 3tpi 3/8" or 1/2" blades on my 14" Jet and my re-saw issues have gone away. I have gone to the BC Saw blades he recommends also.

Thanks for the comment. After doing some more research and considering your comment it seems that the general consensus is 3 TPI at 3/8"-1/2". Makes sense to me. Thanks again. Bill.
