I'm checking to this for use on a vise I would like to build, but I'm curious to see how people install them. Are they really only used for leg vises or can they be used for a side vise?
Thank you,
Brian

It is difficult to picture exactly what you want to accomplish.
There is hardware for the tail vise that is about $200 more than the single screw. The trick with that kind of vise is the track on which it travels.
If you are thinking of a wagon vise, then the problem is affixing the end of the screw so the wagon moves and the screw stays stationary.
At times I have thought of a wagon vise that is made so it not only moves along the top of the bench, but also is available through the apron.

I think I may be doing a poor job of describing what I want to accomplish. As I think this through I'm beginning to think a chain vise may be better.
