This is from a 200+ year old Sycamore that stands in the yard of a restored historic mansion house here in Virginia. It is from one of the limbs that was storm damaged, and removed by maintenance workers.

It stands 24" tall (on the stand) and is fully hollowed to about 1/8". The major diameter of the globe is approximately 6", while the OD of the stand is 8" at the base.

The base is a reversed hollow form with the bottom and most of the walls removed. Both pieces are from the same log. The finish is satin lacquer - 9 coats.

Never seen that much character in Sycamore. Great piece, definitely a show stopper

Nicely done. Beautiful piece, and, I agree, creative.

Don't guess that I have EVER seen a suspended turning.
Very well done, and certainly original.
