Consider replacing it with a link type belt--they run very smooth and quiet. Also much easier to install on most equipment.

The only trouble with the link belt idea is that the belt on the Jet is grooved--I think it has 3 grooves.

Belts are really expensive. I had to replace one of them on my Delta drill press. Ended up going to an automotive store and got it at a much better price than thru a tool distributor.

Yea, go to a belt supply place. Much cheaper, or even google it. Link belts work great on any V type pulley, but they stretch out a bunch when new, but you just remove a link or two till it stops stretching.

I don’t know the size/type you need but you may want to check at KSC. From my Nova the belt is $20 from a retailer or the service center. I paid about $5.50 the best I remember. Right now to fit my Nova they have the A&I for $2.83 or Gates for $9.27. They took about 10 days to deliver but my old one wasn't broken so it wasn't a problem.
Just search for the one you need. http://kscdirect.com/search_results.php?q=230j6 (http://kscdirect.com/search_results.php?q=230j6)

This place may have what you need also. Not a cheap as KSC but still cheaper than retail. Their Gates is $14.14 for the same belt.

I'm curious what you are doing to the belt that it needs replacement already. I'm still on the original in my 1998 Oneway 2436. Do you set it so it slips when you get a catch?

Like Richard, I'm curious also. Bought my Jet 1642 used. It is now 10 years old. Turn on it 10-15 hours a week. Original belt shows little wear. Turn mostly hollow forms. Seldom turn faster than 2k.

I was wonderingthe same thing. Is your belt worn out already? Ribbed belts last a long time. I don't turn every day, but I think my lathe is 3 years old too. My Jet mini is real old and on the original belt. And I've done coring on the mini. Talk about hard on a belt....

Ribbed belts ain't cheap like v-belts. Not v pulleys on 1642.........

According to your manual the belt is a 180J. 180 is the length, J is micro-v belts. The manual does not state the number of ribs. Here is a link to KSC for 180J4 (four ribs), it the ribs are different just seach for 180J3, 180J6 or what ever the number or ribs are.
They carry four brands in the four rib size and the Gates is $6.18

I think the manufactures make the belts with about 220 ribs and the number of ribs you need are sliced off.

It's been a while since I've sold my Jet, but I replaced the belt at one point - got it from the Belt Store http://www.beltsforanything.com

Michaels got the right numbers. I don't remember the price, but they had to be cheap - I bought 2. The original was in sad shape after teaching myself to use the MacNaughton and an 'industrial accident' while a 'friend' was turning on it ended with the spindle being replaced (don't ask).

I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing this out. My previous research didn't turn this up, so mouth and research need to get retrained..........

At those prices, I'll surely get a spare.
