Mystery Wood?? Any ideas what kind?

Before I put the finish on and glue in the stainless insert I like to write the type of wood on the bottom along with my signature. Unfortunately I acquired this wood from a friend. He and I don't know what kind it is. Here are some pics of another blank of the same wood and the mug before the finish is applied.

That grain looks a lot like some elm I have turned on several occasions. Just for you to compare, take a look at the pic of this large elm vase I turned a few months ago...........look at the little knots [very similar to yours] and then at the base of the vase........it looks almost identical to the bottom of your blank here..............I think yours is elm also!
