There is something about the scroll saw that begs it to be souped up. The Old saws are cheep and easy to find, and as i found out quite complicated really. I live in Canada and we do not see very many Powermatic , so when i was picking up a wadkin YJ OSS on a road trip there it was. The young man had picked up all the machinery from a school and had visions of fixing it all up. At the time he did not know that it was 3 phase, with some of it 575 volts . his plans dashed after finding out what it would cost to get running. He sold the scroll to me for my $50 offer. That is right a 3 phase scroll saw. When i got it home i did not look at it that close but i could see it had some parts missing. It sat there for a few months until i was on another road trip for some buffalo drill presses. Once again there was a scroll saw a delta 1940s this time for $40,and looked like it had the parts i needed. As you can guess it came home. All the bearing were change with SKF as well as the bronzes bearings in the the crank. The air pump was shattered and had to be re built.I had a light for it from one of the drill presses but had to make it work with the SS by making new arms. The light came with one of the buffalo's and though not the retirement lamp that are so popular,i think it is still cool. I do not know the age of the scroll saw but it has the Powermatic logo cast in the arm so maybe early 60s. I had a lot of old motors but kept the 3 phase motor and put a VFD for the speed control and switch. I sold my old sears 12" scroll saw and got all my money back for what i put into it. I had a lot of fun with this one (a gate way tool i think for those wanting to try there hand at restores ). now for pics.

as i got it

Jack, you are a good museum curator. But if they ever ask your permission to shoot a movie there,be advised they will dump shavings on the floor.

Usually I'm a fan of not restoring old machines, my feeling is that the patina tells a story. I have to say with this saw, you have transformed it into a moving work of art.
