About a year and a half ago I had a fire in my shop. Afterwards I checked the tables on my jointer and everything still appeared to be flat (it is a big chunk of steel after all). I decided that if the motor was salvageable that I would restore it. Well, the motor only needed new bearings and a cleaning so you can see the results below. I did upgrade to a byrd cutterhead as part of the restoration.

Great job! The beauty of a good old fashioned cast iron tank, not much that can hurt them.

Yes, it's an Oliver 4240, about six years old. Lot's of sandblasting and a few cans of Rustoleum is what it took. Oliver was helpful in getting me some of the plastic knobs and a new cutterhead guard. I am quite pleased with the results.

Beautiful recovery. What a pleasure it must be to use that machine.
