View Full Version : Curved Tool Rest with 5/8" Post (Jet 1221VS)

I'm working on a bowl that's right at the 12" limit of my 1221VS. I'm finding that a curved tool rest would really come in handy when turning the inside, but the pickin's are a little slim when it comes to tool rests with 5/8" posts.

What do y'all recommend?

PSI has a "S" round bar rest that fits. I use it on my 1014. Should work for your 1221. I like it.

How long is the post? From the comments I've seen, it's a little short for the 12" models.

Ah, you are correct. The description says it fits, but the reviews do contradict that. You may need to resort to a custom one. Is your banjo "taller" than the 1014 by an inch? It will be awhile before I can measure it.

Dan, try contacting Hannes Michelsen. He has had them in the past.

Robust Mini "J" rest. A little pricey but allow more workable space in the bottom of a bowl. I have both the 1220 and the Robust Mini "J" rest.

Available through Woodcraft, Craft Supply, Packard Woodworks and the Robust online store (http://turnrobustonline.com/)

The PSI S rest post is really short, 2.5". Now that you mentioned it, reaches just above centerline on my mini.... If your stock post is short you could use it.

I had the PSI, and it broke immediately, and they refused to replace it. I bought the Delta S curve rest from CS USA and it works great. It has a post made to fit the Delta 46-460, so it is long enough for a 12 inch lathe. Seems like it was about $29.00 ish.

Well, after considerable rumination I've ordered the Robust Mini J rest. Now comes the hard part: waiting.

Thanks, all!
