Dale:

I put a link belt on my TS and it was a real improvement,

Ordered it by the foot from Harbor Freight, I think.

I'll update all my belted tools when I get to it.

In a previous life I owned a Craftsman Contractors TS. Putting a link belt and machined pulleys on it made a HUGE difference in decreasing vibration and noise, and increasing power.

Dale,

About the Miller dowel, did you check out CSH (Custom Service Hardware), www.cshardware.com (http://www.cshardware.com), 1-800-882-0009. Thei prices are quite a bit lower than other places I've checked.

Mini-X Joinery Kit, 1X Joinery kit = $13.06 and 13.70 (kit contains appropriate drill bit and 50 birch dowels). (Rockler list these at $22.19 and 21.99, close to $9.00 more).

Mini X Dowels, up to 1/2" stock, qty 100, Birch, Oak, Cherry, Walnut = $8.87, $10.81, $14.85 and $16.20. (Rockler list these at $13.99, $16.99, $23.99 and $24.99, $5 to $8 more),

1X Miller Dowels, up to 1" stock, qty 100, Birch, Oak, Cherry, Walnut = $13.06, $15.92, $20.27 and $21.56. (Prices in Rockler are only for qty 40. CSH for 40 is $5.22, $6.38, $8.10 and $8.62. Rockler for 40 is $8.99, $10.99, $12.99 and $13.99, $3.50 to $5.50 more for 40).

I know that Miller Dowels come in some additional wood types such as locust, white oak, teak (I think) and cypress (again I think) - CSH does not list them. Also, Miller sales 2x for stock up to 1-3/4" thick - CSH does not list them.

BTW, CSH's web site is still under construction so you might have problems finding some of their stuff (I couldn't fine the Miller Dowels, was in their latest catalog). Also to get their wholesale prices, you have to purchase a minimum of $50.00. They have some many "must have" items at such good prices, I never have a problem reaching that limit. There Customer Service is excellent as is their shipping and handling prices. (Beware of buying small versus larger quantity, i.e., many times you can get 10x the quantity for 3x the price - check it out and you will see what I mean).

And finally, check out their other prices on slides, wheels, coat hooks, handles and the likes. Many of the prices are 1/2 of other catalogs.

Regards, Joe

Dale,

I've use the Miller system quite a bit and really enjoy it. Remember, a little glue goes a long way and make sure you blow out the holes before you drive the dowel home. I used a basketball blowup needle on the end my compressor hose. It works great.

Good luck,
-joe

I um.. "acquired'' some link belt from a guy at work, 25 feet to be exact. Nice stuff . Already changed the belts on the lathe, drill press and band saw. Seems to have made a difference. I still have to do the Unisaw. And should have some left over for future machines.
