I've done some experimenting with bleaching both white oak and red oak (using qtr/rft boards). I had assumed that the white oak would produce a better outcome. Yet, on my samples, the red oak seems to bleach out better. The white oak seems to have a light greenish, yellowish tint. Anyone else have experience with bleaching red and white oak?

How about ash? Does that bleach out well?

Thanks.

What kind of bleach are you trying to use? There are three types used in woodworking.

o Chlorine bleach (source; swimming pool supply store) used to remove dye stain from wood.

o Oxalic acid used to remove mineral and water stains from wood.

o Two part A/B bleach used to remove the natural color from wood.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Every wood reacts differently to bleach. The only way to know how it will work in a specific situation is to test it.

Howie,

I'm using Wood Kote (two part A/B) product.
