I need to set up my dust collection system around the shop and I see Lowe's has some metal expandable flex duct that is fairly cheap. Can I use that to run from my machines to PVC piping? If I use it, is there an issue with the static discharge?

I think you'll find it doesn't have the structural integrity to hold up under a good suction system... and once it starts to collapse, it finishes in the blink of an eye.

Ok. Any suggestions on where local hose can be found in most cities without going to the Internet?

It's not local, but I would order from Wynn Environmental... good prices on high-quality tube and the shipping is cheap. They also have the good clamps.
