This is a piece of BLM burl that was dyed several times as part of the desired effect. It has a marble like look, in person. The finial is African Blackwood and is my usual style. 3 1/2" wide and 6 1/4" tall. Finished with thinned shellac and 5-6 coats of WOP, Beal buffed and Ren wax.

This is one of the new pieces I will be taking to SWAT in a couple weeks.

Comments are always welcome. Thanks

Awesome job Scott! Would you mind sharing what type of dye you used?

Charlie K, I think the dimensions might include the finial.

Thanks all. Charlie, the size is 3 1/2" wide and 6 1/4" tall (including the finial).

Jim, I used some dye I bought at Craftsupplies. They are little "jugs" and premixed (but I don't know if its Dna or water) I know it doesn't come off fingers very easily and I am OUT of latex gloves!

Top shelf Scott! Nice job on the marbling effect and the form is sweet, as well as your signature finial........overall a nice balance to the piece! The pic makes it look bigger than the dimensions you describe.........at any rate this is PUR-D!

It's a fantastic form Scott, the shape is beautiful, as is your coloring. I really like the character in the coloration in this piece, you've done an outstanding job as always Scott!

Real nice HF and finial. Do you put a weight on the bottom of the finial?

Honestly Scott, I normally don't like most dyed wood jobs because I think the wood itself is beautiful and much of what I see is very tacky, but that is absolutely gorgeous. It's almost like you just revealed what was already there. Very nice.
