Was surfing around on CL and saw this -

http://images.craigslist.org/00N0N_3EMB25nz0Qm_600x450.jpg
"36" swing 50" long - $2500. We bought this big old lathe to make 4 parts with it that were 30" diameter. It did the job. Now we don't have any use for it. Just taking up valuable space in the shop. It has a 24" four jaw chuck on it. Comes with toolpost, live center, and some tooling."

I realize this thing is a metal lathe, but just think of the hollow forms one could do on it! And, probably some pens, as well.:D

It is only an hour or so drive for me, and I do have a pickup truck......hmmmmm.........:eek:

John, I highly recommend you have a couple extra leaves added in your rear springs.

Whoever said you cant make a silk purse out of a sow's ear didnt know anything about woodturning.

A rigging company would charge the price of the lathe just to move it and set it up. Think of the massive chunks you could turn on this baby.

sort of dreaming John.....i understand.....think about the swing away for the tailstock.....could use a volkswagon and pulley system...........makes 3520 tailstock sound reasonable again

The machinist in me says I WANT... the woodturner in me says I WANT! I hope you are crazy enough to actually entertain the idea, that sure would be an amazing piece of equipment. You could turn new wheels for your truck! :D

John, I highly recommend you have a couple extra leaves added in your rear springs. And, about 6" of reinforced concrete to my shop floor!

It sure would make an interesting project for someone that liked to tinker and restore - neither of which fit my profile.:D

hey, Ashley H. has been buying multiple big lathes, saw her on facebook with a flatbed that had several lathes on it, not sure if she resells them or what, maybe just needs some lathes for her shop, she teaches, what would you think if you showed up for schedlued class and that was what you were turning on?

The newest delivery of lathes to my studio!

MONARCH 53" x 228" MONSTER ENGINE LATHE - $49500 (FULLERTON, CA)

The tailstock is a little heavy, anyone know of a swing-away for it?
