View Full Version : Jet JWP-12-4P planer worth fixing?

I came into one of these. Apparently one of the knives was left loose because the "lockbar" came out and got all bent up. Also, the up-and down motion got stuck or stiff and two of the little plastic bevel gears are missing teeth.

Otherwise, the machine seems useable. Seems to run OK and the cutterhead and feed rollers don't seem to have gotten bent from their encounter with loose parts.

This machine seems repairable for a parts cost of around $60.

LI've never had a planer before. Looking for some guidance as to whether this is a machine worthwhile to fix. And also on the easiest way to hook up to a dust collector. And what knives to buy it it makes any difference--the Powertec ones seem to be around $30 online.

Thanks for any advice.

If everything looks solid except for the parts you mentioned, I would fix it. Not sure on dust collection. For the blades, check Amazon reviews for Jet and Powertec blades. I have a Delta planer and ended up getting OEM blades based on other customer's feedback on blades.

Good Luck...
