Our grandkids from California have been visiting for a few weeks and will be going home in another week.
While here the oldest, Mike at 11, has been spending time with me in the shop making things.
Our geese dropped a lot of wing feathers during their annual molt and we collected them.
Of course curios grandkids want to know what we were going to do with them. One of my thoughts was to make goose quill pens.
While attempting to make one for Mike, the smaller grandkids came in the shop and demanded their own quill pens. So in all 5 were made, one is for me afterall.
So here is Mike showing his sister how they work:

Once one gets the basics down they are fairly easy to make. Actually was able to incorporate some of my shop tools into the making of them. Was also able to make them with a freshly sharpened small Swiss Army Knife.
There is a reason some knives are called pen knives.
