Hi All, I'm thinking of getting one of these for final fit of tenons. Is it good for this AND as a block plane? Or should I just get a shoulder plane and separate LA block plane? This one seems to do it all. Thanks for your thoughts. Alan in Md.

Hello Alan. I own the LN 60 1/2 and the 60 1/2R. The rabbet is not a good block plane [at least compared to the 60 1/2] Personally if I were starting over I would buy a shoulder plane before the rabbeting block. I would get the LN. low angle block and then a Veritas or LN 3/4" shoulder plane.

I have both the 60 1/2R & 60 1/2 and tend to agree with Peter's comments.

The "R" is satisfactory for tenon work but lacks an adjustable mouth to make it a good block plane.
