I have not seen any re-posting of the several mobile library video DVDs of late. Just wondering where my DVDs might be. I loaned out Bill Grumbine's "Turned Bowls Made Easy" and Cindy Drozda's "Fabulous Finial Box" DVDs with the following stipulations(rules):

1. - Loans are restricted to Contributors of SMC, and I would expect that policy to be honored by others that may come into possession of this DVD. If you aren't a Contributor, then pay the $6 and have an opportunity to borrow this DVD, and others that may be available by other creekers.
2. - The DVD will be marked with the owners name. While he does not ever expect them back in his possession, should the interest in borrowing these cease, he would appreciate the individual holding them LAST, send him a PM for his address and returning them.
3. - The DVD should be cared for properly so it can be shared with others.
4. - I will mail the DVD or DVDs to any Contributor wanting them for viewing. That person will diligently watch them to the extent they feel it takes to absorb the material, and then the holder shall promptly post a thread similar to this one seeking another interested individual. The person shipping shall bear the cost of shipping each time the DVDs change possession.
5. - This arrangement is based solely on the honor system. The DVD or DVDs have been very helpful to me, and I hope it/they will help others. But, that can only happen if we have honest participation in this arrangement. If it doesn't work, then it is no great loss to me economically, but it will certainly be a disappointment to me.
6. - SMC is not involved in this at all, has no liability, and this entire arrangement is voluntary on my part. I accept the risk of loss of the DVDs, and in no way intend to hold the owners/administrators/moderators of SMC liable in any way in the event of loss.
7. - There will be no "waiting list", and each time the DVD is offered for loan, a new thread shall be posted, and the first contributor posting in the thread gets the DVD.

If the videos have run their course please review rule #2. If you are through with the DVD please refer to rules #3&4. There are other DVD "owner/loaners" that may be wonder the same as I.

Thanks
JD Combs

JD, thanks for posting this. Unfortunately, I have made similar posts in the past with little impact. I know there were several DVDs put in circulation by you and others, including 6-7 by me, as well. While the financial outlay on my end was less than $200, it is aggravating to know there are people that decide to simply keep property belonging to someone else. If those folks don't want to publicly post that still possess the videos, at the very least, send the owner a PM, get an address, and return the videos to the original owner.

It was a good idea originally, however, it does require honesty to make it work.

I hadn't heard of the mobile library in the several months I've been hanging around.

I guess not too many people are offering them up - and I can see why given your post. I'd love to participate in something like that.

It's too bad.

James - I just sent out Bill Grumbine's DVD to another SMC contributor last week. I think this was your DVD.

Edit - Mike Goetzke should have the Grumbine video at this point in time.

I had to do some digging - both in memory and thru SMC, but found that I put into circulation a total of 7 videos -

Elegant Finials - Drozda
Finial Star - Drozda
Turning Projects - Raffan
Turning Wood - Raffan
Turned Bowls - Grumbine
Beyond Basic Bowls - Grumbine
Bowl Turning - Stubbs

Turning Wood (Raffan) has surfaced and is on its way back to me.

Should anyone have any of the others, you can PM me for my address so they can be returned. I will not post the name of the individual(s) that have them. It would just be nice to have them back if they are no longer going to be circulated.

Thanks!

I viewed the 2 Drozda Videos........probably a year and a half or more ago.........sent them on to their next destination as per the rules of the mobil library...........I hope the folks who have them will send them on...........I think some folks either put them away with their own DVD's and forget about having them, or maybe a worse act.......deliberately keeping them.

Most of the turners I have met are good folks........I think forgetting is the issue for most..........I know that at my local club, the librarian has a number of items out..........and even after several notifications to the club in general, there are still some missing. At times turners move, or lose interest in the club, and forget.........they should be more diligent in returning things that belong to others!

I'm just sayin' ! ;)

I have two of the videos ... Actually forgot until the thread started. I'll post the notice when I get back in the country, and will add one extra video to the library.

At this point I would think that the return of the videos to their original owners would be best. I participated in the mobile library once and passed the videos along. It doesn't seem like it's "working" anymore and so the videos should be sent back to their owners (in my opinion).

If you don't have an address, PM the individual and get the correct mailing address.
