Is it safe to put a large mortiser (grizzly g0448) on a mobile base? I bolt down my current bench top mortiser to keep it from tipping. If not, has anyone built a mobile base with outrigger extensions like on a crane?

My gut feeling is that it would be tippy but I am sure someone came up with a clever way of doing it ..

Depends on the mobile base design.

If it's one of those Jet mobile bases with 3 contact points, yes. If it's one of the nice HTC bases, where there are 4 contact points, than I don't see an issue. It will be just as solid as sitting on it's own base on the floor.

As an aside though.
Why is your benchtop mortiser tippiing? I have a Delta 14-651 and have never had an issue with it tipping during use, even when it was still on it's OEM base.
