I was gifted a Craftsman Oscillating Spindle Sander today, It's a 1/2hp Model 113.

Unfortunately it's missing the 3/4", 1", 1.5", and 3" hard rubber spindles. After looking around I have found that there are no parts available for this particular model.

Does anyone know if there are spindles that will work with this sander? Or if there is some sort of work around?

Thanks!

Jon,

113 is just part of the model number. Can you provide the other 6 numbers after that?

You might try getting the thread size off the existing spindle. Go to a local woodworking tool retailer and see if the spindles off a Jet or PM or......a HD Ridgid spindle sander has the same thread. If you find one with the same thread, order from that manufacturer.

Oops, Sorry about that!

113.225906 is the whole model number on the tag.

Someone with the same issue on ManageMyLife: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/291706-rubber-spindles-sears-oscillating-spindle-sander-size-12-34-1-inch
The expert suggests that some Rigid brand spindles may fit.

Are these slide-on rubber cylinders or are they an assembly with a steel tapered shaft that mates with a socket? If they are the slide-on type I would try Supergrit (http://www.supergrit.com/OSSSandingDrumsandSleeves) although most of their sizes seem to fit 1/4" shaft. Delta and Powermatic/Jet could be a source as well depending on the attachment method. If they are an assembly, things could get troublesome ;-)

Jon,

What is interesting is that the parts manuals for that only show the 2" spindle. Do you have the 2" spindle?

I do, I have the 2" and the 1/2" and they are the slide on type.

I think I am going to give the Ridgid spindles a try. They look really close judging by the pictures.
I guess we will have a definitive answer in a few days.

I will update this thread with the results of this trial.

I say use it like it is for a while and see if you feel like you need any other sizes.

Either that of see if someone here lives near you and has a Ridgid. If so they may let you drop by their place to see if your drum fits their sander. If so it's likely to work the other way too. :-)

I have the Ridgid and they are 4 1/2 long and I have a 2, 1 1/2, 1, 3/4 inch rubbers that go on and the shaft is 1/2".
