As the subject line states I am wondering of there is a difference on the level of protection between the two. I have the 3M unit and have been happy with it but would spring for the Trend if the level of protection was better. I am sure if you wear the unit all day long the trend would be more comfortable and cooler but I only turn for a couple of hours at a time. Just wondering if anyone has any input on this.

Thanks.

Big difference - the trend is powered air while the 3m is passive. On the other hand the P100 filter is NIOSH rated.
Neither the older version nor the Pro is NIOSH certified.

Both provide ANSI Z87.1 (low energy impact eye protection)
From their website:

the Pro is:
Respiratory protection (for reference only) NPF50 to BS EN 12941 THP2.

While the older Trend is:
Respiratory protection (for reference only) NPF20 to EN 146 THP2.

not a specialist, so I can't fully interpret that.

Here is the standard for the Trend...it's the upgraded Euro standard NPF50 to BS EN 12941 THP2. The main advantage of the 3M is the VOC filter availability. The big detractor is the clunkiness of trying to put that thing on. It's not to dissimilar from an SCBA.

How does the Euro standard compare to the NIOSH? they mention those 'for reference only' so are they certified ? or is that what they think they could certify to?

From the specs I read both filter down to 0.3 microns. The Trend with 98% effeciency and yours with 99.9% efficiency.

Not every country certifies to US standards...it's just not necessary. Each country has it's own testing standards based their industrial needs. Trend is made in Europe for the most part and is certified to Canadian/European standards. Michelle, if you can find the definition of a wood particle meeting 1.9% and the difference between that and what isn't filtered into your lungs...I'll buy it.

Looks like I am staying with the 3M mask. My only real interest in upgrading is to improve my chances of not getting a lung problem but I can't see where this expenditure will accomplish that goal. I don't have a problem with wearing the 3M mask. It fits well under my Bionic Face Shield plus with the organic vapor cartridges it works well with spraying finishes. Thanks for the reply's.

Michael, do you recall the source of the spec? I'd appreciate a link if possible.
