I have a job for a customer, engraving things that have been black oxided. They have the slimy coating on there that they dip the parts in at black oxide to prevent it from rusting. It's been many years since I've had to use a parts washer and I can't remember what we always used. What's the best thing to clean those with? Varsol? Something better? I have several 1000 to clean, so I'd like to just put them in the parts washer, let them soak and then take them out and put them on a table to dry or be wiped off.

Any better recommendations on what to use?

Thanks!

We use stanisol in our parts washer.

I have used Simple Green or kerosene depending what I need to clean. I used diluted muriatic swimming pool Ph adjusting acid for removing rust. I have never had enough of a demand for buying the standard parts washing solution. I have used caustic soda/sodium hydroxide to remove paint from ferrous metals, this works better in a hot tank.
