We just picked up an antique wooden wagon wheel my wife wants to display outside. It appears to be made from oak. The wood in a couple areas is a little soft, has deteriorated some, the previous owner said it likely sat in some mud for a period of time. The question is - how is it best to preserve the wood from now on? Should we put some type of finish on it or just bear with it?
