I thought someone posted something similar to this the other day but I can't find it. Our turning club had a demonstration on turning what the presenter called "Naked Edged Bowls" so I had to try one. Tonights the first night I've been able to get in the shop since Thursday.

It's made of bradford pear which wasn't one of my favorites before tonight. Most of it that I had turned was a little boring. Tonight it might step up a notch or two out of the burn pile.

It measures about 5" in diameter by about 7" tall. I put one coat of Watco danish oil on it but wiped it down. I think I'll laquer it eventually. Comments and critiques welcome.

Nice work, Raymond. I think Bradford pear turns beautifully. Since the grain is usually not too spectacular, ith makes you think a little more about the design of the piece. I've had some very interesting effects stem from the darkening as the wood dries. It occurs from the outside in, whereas most woods start with darker heart wood and lighter sapwood.:)
