I hope this is true and not something photoshopped and made up because it's pretty cool.
Enjoy

Amazing! Thanks for posting, Gary. This is for real. If you google the artist's name, it pulls of various reviews, articles and videos of his work.

No kidding. That stuff is awfully hard to work with too. Every time I touch it with the chainsaw it shatters.

Well woodworking and art are two totally different things.

I should know, miniture modeling and detail work I can do... designing and building fine furniture or even making nice kitchen cabintes I can not... go figure.

i do hobby watch repair on mechanical watches, so i am very familiar with what it takes to make a mechanical wristwatch work. using wood to make a mechanical watch presents so many incredibly difficult problems that I would be stunned if the watch ran with any degree of accuracy or reliability. I think it's more of a novelty item or an art item rather than a reliable timekeeper intended for daily use.

impressive nonetheless.

I make larger versions, all wood, that hang on walls. here's an example.

I ran into a local clock maker who told me there is a history of clock makers in Russia in the 19th Century making wooden pocket watches. One family in particular made watches that are now very collectible. Here's a website about them. http://catalog.antiquorum.com/catalog.html?action=load&lotid=112&auctionid=80
