Did a bit of Rust Hunting today. Picked up a couple saws, a Millers falls 900, and two chisels. 266346266347266348The saws are nothing real special, as is the plane. The one chisel with the wood handle is a "Corsair 1" wide as is the strange one. Never have seen a ferrel like that..266349266350I'd turn a new handle for it, if I knew what shape it was..

Stamped into the ferrel; "Cleveland File CO" "Super Duty"

End of the tang is split into a couple of layers.

Chisel body has what looks like a "Made in USA" above a pair of lines. inside the lines are some capital letters, only two I can make out are a CK???

The chisel with a handle its the type I could afford back in the 50's. They cost about 50 cents. That was what I had to work with for some years. That, and a cheap gray hardware stone. I spent lots of time stropping it on paper to get the chisel pretty sharp. I was a camp counsellor one Summer, and carved a totem pole with it and a pocket knife! Probably still in the Community Center in Norfolk. Also used it a lot in guitar making.

The wood handled one is labeled as a CORSAIR TOOL STEEL USA and is 1" wide. Really quite thin though, along the edges. The non-handles one has a ferrel marked for the Cleveland File CO. and is also marked as a "SUPER DUTY" one. Both chisel have a flair along the tang, right where it would enter the handle.266398266399266400266401As for this "Salt Shaker ferrel", ever see one like it?

I haven't seen the salt shaker ferrule before. Strange design.

Have downloaded new tote patterns for the saws. Trying to find out what shape of handle that Salt Shaker ferrel had. Hooped? Butt style? Long & round? Couldn't be like that Corsair, handle is too skinny. Base of the ferrel is 1" id. Would this be a paring style, or just one to whack with a mallet.

Tang on it's chisel has been split, upper and lower slice. Maybe it was supposed to spread out as you drove it into the handle??

Chisel now has a "new" handle, and is ready to pare a joint or two
