Friend of mine is trying to put new rubber on wheels 18" jet ,, anyone out there now any tricks for strecthing the new rubber onto the wheel. Instructions said to heat up in water, I guess the water was not hot enough in his shop. I suggested to put them on the dash of truck ( we are in Texas ) for a while . any suggestions?

Thanks Tom.

I did it this way, without hot water. 266282 The pins remove after the tire is seated.

Hey Tom,

I used regular tire irons and a bit of soapy water to change the tire on my 18" jet ..... it was a piece of cake with tools.266283

I seem to remember that Grizzly has a really good instructions on making it easy. Might have even been a video. Might be worth a look.

For urethane tires (http://www.carterproducts.com/support/UrethaneInstall.pdf), hot soapy water, clamp one point to use as a start "pin" and slip them on. They tighten as they cool. Should be hot enough coming out of the water to require gloves. Need to cool COMPLETELY before tensioning blade. Rubber tires (http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/library/manuals/carter/carterrubbertireinstall.pdf) are handled differently.

I think this is also explained in the latest (Sept) issue of Wood.

Installing rubber band saw tires often needs "third hand" to install, stretch and fix the tire into the wheel. I don't think it is necessary to soak the rubber tire in hot water. Check this (http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/library/manuals/carter/carterrubbertireinstall.pdf) .
