I thought this was an Ash blank till I roughed it out. Anyone got any idea what it is? It is pretty fine grained and easy to turn. It is from a limb that was about 20", the tree is about 3' at the base.:confused:

Looks like Ash to me, bark, wood, and the darker heart wood. Most ash isn't too hard.

I think it looks like elm bark and elmm can be tight grained

Thanks for the returns. I went back and checked the tree and am sure that it is Ash. It has Ash type leaves and the limbs coming out at sharp angle like ash. I have turned quite a bit of Ash and this wood was different. It is nice to turn, there is quite a bit of it on the ground, don't think I want to tackle that tree. Here is another photo, it is a little dark, we haven't had much sun here lately.266132
