I have a request from a Fire Dept to engrave a bunch of Streamlight Survivor LEDs. The CASE MATERIAL:
Housing, base and battery housing made from high impact super tough nylon.

Anyone done something like this? Will a laser even engrave the material?

You should be able to get a reasonably dark mark on it... doesn't take much power, either.

Thanks Dan. I'm having them drop one off today for testing.

Have them drop off one of each color, from my experience with black nylon it will engrave but you won't be able to see it the engraving is the exact same color as the material. I don't know what the other colors will do. Also black nylon will engrave white to gold with a yag.

I did some on a similar material. They were yellow Fluke Multimeters. I ended up having to mask and colorfill. The marking on the yellow plastic was way too faint.

Ive done the yellow ones for the fire service, they had a bar code engraved on them and came out dark grey but we had to use a YAG, the co2 didnt really do much, certainly not dark enough to read, i still have one somewhere, its was very bright!
