I wanted to build this bed every since seeing it in a 1995 canadian workshop magazine . I finally got around to it! Posts are turned in 3 pieces. Royal mahogany stain and gloss poly finish. Assembled in the basement for a pic before delivery to our daughter.

The soft maple stained beautifully. Any tricks on getting the color so fine? Rubbed on, sprayed, how many coats, which stain? Thanks.

I wiped on with a cloth covered wiping sponge Benjamin Moore's Royal Mahogany stain. On the posts I brushed on 1 coat of tinted poly by Benjamin Moore, Red Mahogany. On the headboard and footboard and rails I sprayed one coat of tinted poly as a base for gloss poly. Several coats of poly on the head and footboard. Had the usually problem of dust, insects, so had to sand smooth and spray again, and again:mad:.
The posts are 3 pieces, and I finished them 1st, then glued them together.
