This is Walnut with Maple holder and cup. Wax finish and buffed. Going to make about 4 more in varying degrees, but they will all have a Poly Wipe finish.

Very nice shape and wood too. A hard finish might work better--they get a lot of use especially eating crawfish.

Very cool. Dd you turn the lift out insert as one piece?

All from the same block. Round over the end, then cut out the lift insert. After making the 'ledge' put the insert back on and shape with the res of the piece. I basically follow an article that was in a Wood Magazine several years ago. I just kinda found my own shortcuts when doing them. Not done any for some time, thought it would be good to put this product back into the displays. Plus, I'm making a few as gifts.

Nice job Jon,
I made about 20 of these in different wood and shapes for Christmas last year. If I can find the photos I'll post them. I enjoyed making this project.

Nice work Jon......I like this form. First time I saw it was when Bernie Wieshapl posted this design......I know he had seen it somewhere also........I might have to try my hand at some of these also.......they are neat projects.

Nice job Jon. I had seen a variation of the original plans where the cup that holds the toothpicks is inserted from the bottom and a "limit" ring is turned inside the holder so that you can only pull the toothpicks out so far. It prevents the toothpicks from falling out onto the table.

Do you know the Wood Magazine number? I checked my older ones but did not see it.

Thanks Larry

Thanks, Jon I will look again. If I make it, I hope it looks half as good as yours. Larry
