that is a but hinge that will allow the door to open against the wall. It has to have an extended part to allow for this. If you know the name of them or where to look please point me in the right direction.

It sounds like what you need is for the pin to be farther into the room (change the pivot point). What you might have presently are 4 1/2" X 4 1/2" hinges(?). By increasing the depth to a 5" or 6" you might be fine. Find an architectural door hardware company (store) close by you. Tell them what you are doing and they should be able to set you up. Or go online and use The Google.

Are you looking for "swing clear hinges"?

I know this as a parliament hinge. Google that, you get plenty of images and sources. Here is one.

That's what I thought they were called. The ones I found didn't look heavy enough for an exterior door...

These will hold a 220# fire door.......http://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/products/hinges/parliament_hinges/13691/enduromax_parliament_hinge_satin_stainless_steel. I've used a few on inswing casements that would probably hold an average door if you used 4 pair on an 80" door, they had 1/8" plate thickness, removable pin. Lots of them were really meant for windows, better to steer clear of the light weight varieties. Professional suppliers should be able to supply a recommended working weight per hinge so you can match the hinges to the door.

Found these from a firm we use a lot at work, should support any average door, also referred to as "projection hinges" by some US vendors.
