i never liked using oak in the laser due to the inconsistant engravings. Stumbled across this while working on an inlay project. So I made a sign to hang outside our camper. Please tell me your thoughts, good and bad.

This is quartersawn oak, rift sawn will work as well. Its the tight straight grain that allows for this look.
Slow speed and high power gives it the depth and contrast.

Chad,

Very nice. I'll have to try that in the near future.

JDS now sells some spray paint to help with Oak. I got some but haven't had a chance to try it.
Much of the wood I do has smaller text so the light and dark areas make it difficult to see. I try
to push my customer to Cherry or Alder if they are making their own plaques.

I love it when all the factors align and you get great results! Your sign looks great, especially considering the wood's bad reputation. Thanks for sharing!
