Late in Norm Abram's New Yankee career, he revisited his classic adirondack chair project. As an improvement over the first plans, he used 3M brand Marine Adhesive Sealant 5200. This is a great improvement over the original as I've found the screws alone will not hold over time. This is $40/ tube on Grainger. I'm wondering, would Liquid Nails construction adhesive suffice?

I built a couple of chairs very similar to those. I used cypress with stainless steel screws and Gorilla Glue. They have been out in the weather for 4 years with no loosening at all.

I'm using PL Premiun by Locktite on a pool deck right now that seemed to get good reviews. It's a polyurathane construction adhesive that comes in a tube for a caulk gum. I got it at Home Depot. I've just recently been using it so I can't say how it will be long term, but i tried to break apart two peices that were glued for about 15-20 minutes, and could not beat them apart. Just an idea to check out.

If you use the 3M 5200 McMaster Carr has it for half the price of Grainger.

If you only need a small amount of the 3M adheasive, you can find it at some Home Depot stores in a 3 ounce tube for $6.47. I have used the standard caulk tube of the 5200, and once opened it will eventually harden in the tube.

Grainger price is way too high. Jamestown Distributors (specialize in boat related items) has a standard 10oz caulking tube of 5200 for $12.99
