This is another style made to show at my upcoming demo in September on goblets. I will have several styles and I thought a natural edge would be a nice rendition. This is 5" tall and 4" wide. I was unable to keep all the bark on this one, but did manage to keep most of it on. I really like the figure in this piece of wood.

The finish is still in process.......it has a couple of coats of WOP on after a coat of shellac to pop the burl grain and spalting. Once the WOP cures for a couple of days, I will sand it back and give it a couple final coats.......should be nice. Comments welcome.

I should probably clarify something here...........this form is not a true goblet in the sense that it does not have a stem...............but it is in keeping with the theme of the demo I was asked to do "goblets/stems/pedestals" so in trying to show different styles, this one has a pedestal on it, but would still be a form that is designed to drink from.........

That being said, with this ragged natural edge, this particular one is obviously just for display, ........might not feel too good on the tender lips!

I personally love items that are "just for display". A very nice shape to honor the beauty of the wood.

Roger, this is very nicely executed, but one question. You stated the finish was WOP over shellac. The can of shellac I have which is Bullseye says it is not recommended for use under a poly finish. You obviously didn't have a problem with this, so I wonder why it says that?

Not sure about what kind you are using Ray.........what I use is 100% dewaxed shellac..........Zinzer seal coat.......I have not found much it is not compatible with so far.........I use it to pop the grain. Thanks for the comment.
