All pics and drawings I have seen on SMC show the overhead dust collection coming from the right. Why couldn't/wouldn't you set it up to the left?

If you are referring to the pipe that comes from below the table and ultimately connects to the blade guard, I believe that there is more room to the right and, therefore, less chance of hanging up the piece being cut.

If you are referring to a drop-down overhead collection hose, it doesn't matter whether it is centered, left or right as long as it is long enough to connect :-).

Like Tom says. Don't forget...your fence goes to the right. Once it reaches it's limit you will never cut anything wider on that side. On the left you could set up horses or whatever, and cut a 6 inch strip off a sheet of ply with the rest hanging out the left.
