Just made these for my kids' teachers. First is from a felled oak in my back yard. 7". The second is 12" and is from a (I believe) pear tree that fell on my parent's street during Sandy last year. The wood turns a pretty yellow when wet. I dyed it with Transtint Lemon yellow and then red. Both bowls were sprayed with shellac. Still have to rub them out (or as you guys say in the round world, 'buff'). Nothing fancy, but C&C welcome.

Very nice bowls.. I'm curious about the rim of the dyed bowl. Did you turn a ridge and create a double rim, or is there a reflection that is confusing my eye?

Thanks. I have never been able to take good pictures. The red bowl has a double rim. From certain angles it looks like a bowl in a bowl. I'm working on getting deeper into the recess, but I don't have a reliable tool yet. I've been using a detail gouge to make the recess, but then a diamond parting tool to make the recess come to a point. It's tricky to do that without causing a catch. I'd be curious to see how others achieve that.
