I haven't posted a lot of my work recently...you know...bowl after bowl after bowl. But I thought this one was...different.

Yup, you know why the walnut is showing in the bottom of the bowl...design opportunity. Yup, you know why the leather strip is at the joint of the pedestal and the bowl...same reason. The base is a core from the bowl.

C&C welcome!

That ought to hold enough M&M's to keep your sweet tooth satisfied for an hour or two, Mike! Nice fix! You had a good one going there........nice save and it still looks good. I like pedestal pieces [I guess that is an understatement] so this one is right up my alley!

Mike that much candy will make you diabetic. Great job on the bowl and the finish. I'm guessing the bow is maple.:D

When I first saw this I thought, "that's clever, having the bottom natural edge," I like even more that its' a core from the top.
Shame you went through a piece like this... but nice save.

Thank you, all, for the kind words. Dennis, I simply went with poly on this. First coat was wiped on to get a nice thick penetrating coat, then sanded down, and sprayed the rest of the coats. I really think this was screaming for an oil finish, but I didn't want to have to buff it! :D

Be sure to admit this only to your turning friends, Mike! This is a terrific piece that looks like it was result of meticulous design and execution! :)

Mike, that's a real nice piece even with your fixes, I really like the wood and the double natural edge, too bad about the saves, but probably only other woodturners would see it as flaws.

Crazy busy lately with little time for posting. But I didn't want to let this one get past without a comment. Sweet!
