so i Went to my local lumber yard looking for about 20bf of hard maple for a mantel project. i left with 160bf of 4/4 Select grade 6' hard maple @ $2.00bf i had to buy it all to get it for that price, after i was done unloading it im wondering if its really a good deal?

the middle stack boards are 6-8" wide, the small stack are 6" & under, the other is 8" or more with the widest being 13"

If it's KD then you got a very good deal. If you're really lucky, you'll find a few of those boards have some curly or bird's eye grain in them.

That is an amazing deal. I can't even get $2/BF when I buy 1000' at a time.

Was not a good deal... WAS A GREAT DEAL! About 25% to 40 % of what you would pay for the best deal in Central CA

It depends. If you have a use for 160 bdft of maple, then it is a great deal. If not, you just have a $300 pile of clutter in your shop.

I guess it all depends on location. Here in Wisconsin my source charges $2.25 BF any quantity.

$2 to $4 a bf for air dried rough here in NE Ohio. $2.50 to $5.00 for kiln dried rough. A whopping $11 to $14 for kd, S4S in widths wider than 7.5".
