Was switching out some parts on a Dunlap #5 Jack plane. It had a #3 sized cap iron with a red bolt. Replaced that with a Dunlap Lever cap the correct width. Went to install a USA Dunlap iron and chipbreaker........DID NOT FIT?
The "new" iron is 2" wide, with the cb just a tad wider. Iron was a tight fit through the mouth, it was scraping each side of the mouth. Chipbreaker wouldn't even get close to the mouth. Sides of the plane taper IN at that point.
Got to checking the West German iron/CB. Iron is about 1-15/16"wide, maybe a 1/64' less. The CB is 1-15/16" wide. Almost like a metric sized iron and a SAE sized Chipbreaker?? 264199264200The "rusty" one is the new one. I guess I will just have to keep the German iron group, afterall. Might find a use for the "SAE" set......
