After just setting up my first lathe and spinning a flurry of blanks in the last few days, I came home from work tonight to find a lot of them cracked, split open even. After reading through many threads about drying and storing of roughed out work, I keep coming across alcohol as a drying tool (for lack of a better word) and also the newspaper wrap. This denatured alcohol would usually be found where, and how long do you immerse your pieces into it. Is there a thread I missed (most likely) that outlines the process? As a newbie, I want to do a nice job, but have to learn to slow down and prepare the wood first, I guess. Is there a time that wood is dry enough to not go through this process?
