Hey all. Figured I would post a couple pics of my progress. First swing at a large slab. The butterfly is also my first stab, not to bad but my hands were sore from the chisel by the end. The dimensions are 80 inches long, ~40" wide and 8/4 thick. The legs are made from .5" steel 4" wide with a 3/8" 10" wide plate for mounting. the finish is envirotex lite. The guy I'm building it for wanted a durable glossy finish. The side that is finished so far is the bottom of the table. The top is a near perfect book match. Thoughts?

Pure wood porn. Interesting modern style base also. Great idea placing a tent over the slab while the finish is drying. This time of year, bugs love to go swimming in a freshly applied finish.

Very nice, that crotch grain is outstanding. I am trying to spec a similar project with some book match walnut for a desk top, but am having a difficult time finding a place with nice book match in stock like yours.

Mind if i ask where you got the nice book match set? How did you joint/level it, or did you find a local place with some big sanders to run it through, or did the supplier of the slabs run it and level it pretty good for you?

Thanks guys. The supplier was Johnson's Creek Hardwood in Mt. Carroll Illinois. The selection of slabs they have are awesome. Flat, dry, straight and smooth. They have large planer that leaves a great surface. For joining, festool gets the credit. TS75 for straight lining and then a domino for added strength and proper alignment.
