Source of Carving Wood

Where is the most economical places to get carving blocks?

The wife is looking for 4" x 4" minimum

Any help or suggestions for sources is welcomed.

What kind of wood? Basswood,Topelo, these woods detail very nice.Hardwood?

Basswood is one of the best carving woods. I buy it at my local hardwood supplier. It's not very expensive.
