I recently read something about white diamond polish for woodturning finishing. How is it used? Is it applied to bare wood to buff it or is it used to buff a dry shellac, poly or lacquer finish?

It is used on a buffing wheel. usually after buffing with tripoli, to help smooth the finish on a project. After the white diamond, the piece is often buffed with wax. The tripoli and white diamond remove the very fine dust specks on the finish, and make it look and feel better. Do not use the white diamond on an open grained dark wood, such as walnut. It will leave white deposits in the pores (this is usually not considered a good thing)
